Inviato: 10 Mar 2008 - 12:24 Oggetto: Angry Jasen says: Boycott Naples! |
|
|
At the beginning of January, at the height of this winter Garbage Crisis in Napoli, an American citizen named "Angry" Jasen Hicks posted a video of himself on Youtube. This guy has the misfortune of living and working in the area of Napoli, Campania. He's not just a tourist passing by. Let's listen to him to hear what he has to say about Naples and its rubbish:
Follows the transcription of the video speech (*credits to Don Pedro De Toledo from the forum):
| Citazione: | Some critic video today to bring my message to the masses in US via the youtube in a view to boycott Italy, italian products, italian food, vacations in italy, pretty much any thing that has to do with italy and brings money into this country. And I'm saying it because right now in Naples, which is one of the largest cities of italy, also one of the dirtiest cities in all of Europe, they’re having a problem of trash. And the problem they’re having is that the landfills are overflowing of trash, the streets are filled up with trash and the citizens are pretty upset about it.
Well, I can agree with them being upset, I would agree, ehm... well, I’m pissed off, being a neapolitan citizen myself, because you turn to see bunchs of crap everywhere, some times 6 feet tall and 20 feet length. All you see is just piles and piles of crap. But people are protesting because what they wanna do is that they wanna open new landfills to remedy the situation. Well, the peole near this landfills are pissed off ‘cause they’re all ‘not-in-my-backyard-mentality’ and they don’t want all this trash and landfills in their backyard, which I guess is understandable, but they’re going about it in a very uncivilized way to protest it.
My opinion is: if I was one of the protesters I’d protest before the city Hall; in United States you have city Hall, you know, the House of Congress, to protest, somewhere the people who can actually fix and remedy the situation. Instead the Neapolitans have decided they’re gonna go about these piles of trash and all the crap they’ve accumulated over nine months and they toss these bags onto the roads to create blockades hoping to disrupt the traffic and they’ve succeeded that, much to my dismay.
The reason that touches me dear to the horror is because I live near Naples, specifically in Monte di Procida, which is a suburb of the main city. It doesn’t have this problem but I have to travel through these trash and protesters, ehm..essentially they’re riots underway. Last week I was driving home and [..snip..] I was driving home by the tangenziale which is a toll road, I got to get by but ptotesters blocked off the Domitiana road, SS7, so all the police were stopping the traffic in an effort to avoid this [..snip] the protesters were throwing bags of trash everywhere and I could only drive through the trash and bags of trash went under carriage of my car and they threw bags of trash over my car [snip] I was so mad on my way home..and If I’d made this video on my way home there ‘d be a lot more of those fuckshit, cocka, and assholes, Italians motherfuckers, but I’m gonna refrain from using much more of that language as I can and I need to calm down.
So, the reason I’m living in Naples, you know, ehm..fuck this place!, is because of my job and I have no choice, I gotta stay here for eighteen months; so, I’m stuck here in this situation and the situation is only getting worse: trash piles are even getting higher...
Now just to gve you an idea on how bad these protesters are disrupting the traffic: it takes me usually 30 minutes to get home, when last Thursday the protesters flung at me bags of trash, shouting, it took me 3 hours to get home. But this city usually sink in traffic and they have always some stupid social problems which are always pretty much the same, over the years [snip] and thirdly, I guess one of the things I see round here which made me think "I can’t believe this people can live this way!"; is that while you’re driving your car you see people opening their door cars and throwing bags of thrash everywhere, just everywhere, randomly by the side of the roads! So this problem seems to be a circular problem; my opinion is that they throw trash by the side of the roads, trash piles up by five or six feet high no one would ever come and collect the trash. [snip]
Naples is famous for the buffalo mozzarella but people from North of Italy are taking little by little steps to boycott this kind of cheese, as countryside is polluted with chemical refusal and buffalos are affected.
But what I say is: come on guys, you’re making all of Italy such a bad place, you’re front page on newspapers news ‘cause protesters are setting on fire heaps of trash. [snip] So the reality of this situation is: I can really compare these folks to the angry monkeys that are flinging pooh at themselves. My call for everyone is to boycott everything from Italy, whether it’s food, clothes, specific brand names, travel, whatever, anything you can do to make an economic impact to the Goverment of Italy that is not coping with the crap problem correctly and with a part of the italian society, ehm... yes! Naples is part of the italian society. Now what I’m gonna do is show a couple of pics i took from may car over my ride home to let you know how bad is the situation. |

Wow! I must admit that I feel a little bit like a local celebrity right now. I didn't think too many Neapolitans would appreciate my video nor understand the underlying theme behind it.
Thanks to all for understanding my video and not getting up in arms (angry) over it.
I will do my best to post up my experiences and my opinions on the area, and how things are viewed by "the bastard american" as people on YouTube have described me. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Yes, I am indeed Angry Jasen. I will post up a comment to my video with a link to the SdG Forums to prove it
As for president, I don't think I want that job. How about an advisor though? _________________ Angry Jasen
